Default Quick detach luggage rackfor Dyna

Just purchased a quick detach luggage rack for wife's 07 Dyna. She wants to keep the bike looking clean without bags and all of the stuff on a bagger. It is necessary to install a turn signal relocation kit. The instructions for the turn signal kit state the wires under the fender have to be cut and pulled out and then ran through the new turn signal stems and then reconnected under the fender with shrink wire connectors. Does anyone know if it is possible to disconect the wires inside the turn signal housing, install the quick detach stem, run the wires through the new stem and reconnect them to the bulb assembly inside the turn signal housing? I am just not to high on the idea of cutting wires in a location that will be subject to water road debris. Appreciate any suggestions.

They can be unplugged from the turn signal housing. But you need a special tool to remove the wires from the plug. I don't have that tool, so I just cut and soldered.

Solder and shrink wrap, you won't have any issues...

I just went through this last weekend. The butt splices provided are designed to be crimped then hit with a heat gun that will shrink them and make sealing goo ooze out the ends. The seem like they'll be pretty darn weatherproof. The problem I had was getting the wires down the hollow section of the tube. I finally had to stip the outer covering off to get them through and even that was a squeeze.

Worth the effort, though -- everyone who sees my bike says, "Nice rack!" They seem a little shy about it though -- they say it to my girlfriend.

After the wire was cut on the back of the bulb assembly did you have to solder in an extra piece of wire or was the original wire long enough to solder back on? Did you have any issues feeding the wire through the assembly?

Interesting, when the stealership put my rack and harware on they charged extra time because they had to solder wires. Keep in mind that this is the same place that wanted to charge me for two air cleaner elements (better performance?) and reportedly forgot to put engine oil in another customer's bike.

Really like the rack, BTW.

When I put the wires through the stems I flattened them first by laying them on concrete and tapping them with a hammer. The two wires then fed through the hole easily. Hope that helps.
