I really hate riding with a windshield, give me bugs in my teeth any day. 700 miles over 12 hours is about right. I do 600 in 10 hours.

700 hundred miles means a constant 70 mph for 10 hours uninterrupted.
You got gas ups, lunch, water breaks....
Again doable but your a champ to do it in one day.

Get a kidney belt.
Gel grips help too.

Look into a good cruise control.

It'll be long and take some of the fun out of it but like others said, definitely doable.

My biggest concern is taking the gun to DC. Laws there are extremely strict. Federal law allows you to transport your gun through any state as long as it is unloaded and locked up and that it is legal where you start and your final destination. i.e. you can transport evil assault rifles through New york as long as thats not your destination.

Handgunlaw.us is a great site for looking up local laws and regulations.

Once you get on the bike, dont stop except for gas. You can't ride fast enough to make up for time spent eating and goofing off.

Get a fullface helmet. Modular if you can. Look online or at CycleGear for a good price.

I have a CCW, but don't carry on a bike. Carrying a gun on a bike is a pain. If you are going through Illinois (among other states) you may have issues. If you are planning on ever stopping in a bar you may have issues. You have to either carry it in the bar, or choose to leave it on the bike.

And AGE has NOTHING to do with the distance a person can cover. Most of the IBA cert holders are older and most of the premier riders are old enough to be this guy's dad.
In this case I'd keep the pistol in the backpack...it'll be uncomfy enough without that thing jammed IWB. A modular helmet is probably a good idea...

Kidney belt is a great idea...probably just use a thumb lock for the cruise.

This would actually be to the N. VA suburbs, DC is just the general area. VA has good gun laws and I wouldn't actually be carrying it on my person, but I'll still check the laws just to see how they are about loaded vs unloaded, where the ammo is, etc.

Wouldn't Franklin Tn. be out of the way? Also as of this moment, Illinois doesn't reconize a CCW. Ride safe.

Im all about the open road and wind in the face, but man a long highway drive without a windscreen is definitely a good workout!

Kinda, but there's a place I can crash overnight for free. I think it adds about 80 miles each day to the total trip.

sounds like a great trip, just don't forget you have to go back too right? or is this a one way deal? va has decent gun laws, lived in springfield (northern VA) for 30 years...I'm pretty sure a loaded pistol in a backpack while riding is considered concealed carry (permit required)....might want to get a fork bag or a lower frame down tube bag to hold the mag. you can always call them and ask directly just to be sure what they consider concealed or open carry while on a motorcycle ride through Va. Be safe!

My half-helmet is so much more comfortable at 75MPH than a full-face. Go half-helmet but definitely keep the sunshine on you.
