rode from central nj to central Florida and back. 2 days going 2 days back. no windshield 1/2 face novelty helmet, and that was the first year i had my license (2009) which means i was about 25 years old. once my *** got numb from riding i was fine (about 4 hours) good luck and have a blast i know i did... but don't forget to pack rain gear. i made that mistake.
Awesome man, sounds like it will be a sweet trip. I'm planning a big one myself later this summer. Everyone says you should have bought a bagger if you're planning on doing trips like this... Glad to see someone else shares by idea that a SB can go anywhere a bagger can.

"you can't tour on a dyna" or "you need a bagger to tour" is probably the biggest BS that I see slung around on HD Forums. A dyna is a friggen Harley big twin. Touring on my bike is like riding in a Cadillac compared to some of the bikes I used to tour on. "you can't tour on a dyna?" Whoever thinks that needs a serious reality check.
Vest advice I'd could give is don't get hung up with numbers. Enjoy the trip and listen to your body. Pushing those last hours...till your speedometer hit's 700, if your out of your comefort zone, is a dangerous thing. Mistakes, misjudgements and errors multiply greatly with fatique. Your young and strong, don't be stupid.
His timing on the run is right on if he is determined and not easily distracted:
70 miles per hour for 10 hours is 700 miles.
(assuming interstate travel)
5 stops for fuel at 10 minutes per stop is 50 minutes for fuel.
(assuming 150 miles per tank)
Rounded up that is 11 hours.
That leaves him 1 hour for whatever.

12 hours.
If he is the type to stop and take a break every fill-up it is not possible.
And, long trips with huge mileage on a Dyna is not an issue.
OP: If you are comitted to make it in 12 hours, just think of it as running tank to tank. Nothing but individual 150 mile bites.
Put lambs wool or a thin blanket folded up on your seat. It will make a huge difference.

This is absolutely correct.
If you get tired, pull over take a 30-40 minute nap, or just call it a day.
I assure you that you can fall asleep riding a motorcycle...

Yep. Just south and west of Pampa Texas, 1989, hwy 60. My first and hopefully last bike nap. Luckily the ditches are wide and shallow around that area. Scared the crap out of me, but didn't go down.
