Speedometer quit working! Help

While riding down to Florida my speedometer, neutral light, and 6th gear indicator all stopped working. It's a 2011 wide glide. Still rode 700 miles without it. Any ideas what it could be? I was thinking the speed sensor but one of the guys at Harley said it could be because of a bad turn signal modulator or the speedo its self could be bad. I really don't want to pay $100 an hour for them to figure it out.

I did check all connections to make sure nothing came loose.

Depending on when you bought it, it should be a warrenty job. I had to have my speedometer unit replaced less than a month after I bought mine.

Pull the sensor out of the top of the trans cover, sometimes some crud covers the pickup.

I'm with this guy.
When my speed sensor went bad on my '08 I was told to check for metal shavings on the sensor. I didn't have anything on the sensor but it was bad and when I replaced it, all was well.
I don't think my neutral light went out, but the speedo, 6th gear indicator and cruise control stopped working and the engine wanted to die.
