Hi Guys Just bought a 2012 Fatbob with 1000 miles on it. The bike has a heavy breather and 2 into 2 rinehart pipes. The dealer says he installed factory download. The bike is not running to well so I am ordering a pro race tuner and software and will instal myself, I have done a few, and turned out excellent. I am getting a strong motor vibration at 4000RPM from motor. Any ideas on what would cause this issue? I have had several bikes and never had this happen. My last 09 lowrider would hit 6000 no problem without vibs!!! And my 09 Fatbob had no issues with the factory download? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Hard to know what a "strong motor vibration" is. Pretty subjective. My 2012 Fat bob has vibration at most RPM ranges. Being this is my first Harley, don't really know if it's excessive or not. I can say that with mirror vibration you can tell there is a vehicle behind you, but unless you pull the clutch in, you can't tell what kind of vehicle it is (read: police behind you)
In 6th on the highway, it tends to smooth out.
I came from a pretty smooth Yamaha VMax and at first the difference was a little bothersome. Now, I'm pretty used to it.
Check motor mounts, bolts, exhaust brackets, make sure they are torqued to spec.. the list could go on really. There could be an off chance your tune is off, I've head of higher RPM vibes being caused by fuel starvation... Start pokin around I guess. Good luck.
Hi just ordered a pro race super tuner, should be in in a few days. I will install the right map and smart tune like I did to my low rider. The bike is running a little lean,(sputtering and popping on deceleration). I don't know if that could cause the vibration at 4000rpm or not??? I guess it is possible?
I checked all mounts were tight, but the rear mount under the bike didn't seem very tight?
You cannot get a torque wrench there, but I tightened it some. The torque for that was 22-27 ft lbs. witch isn't that much! I know what that is approximately is because i torque stuff frequently being a millwright. THX
I can confirm my 2013 FB has a little more vibration than my 2010. It's like RJHD says about the mirrors. On my old one I could make out the girlfriends cheesy grin when she rides up close. This one, I just know she's there, details are more blurry.
It ain't a problem, I'll get used. As long as my fingers don't go white and numb!
Hi Guys
So I went over the whole bike. There is a service bulleting M-1324 for Dynas vibrating. The service bulletin is for setting up the front motormount clearance between 20 and 40 thou. My mount was tight and I set it up according to the service bulletin. I also set up a new map in the bike with the super tuner. The vibration is still there, contrary to what most people say vibrating at low rpms and going away, mine is opposite. It is smooth, and starts at 4000 and stays to red line. I may change the front motormount and see what that does??? I found posts with similar problems, that in the end did this and the vibes were gone? Kinda sucks doing this on a new bike and HD dealers says service bulletins are not covered under warranty. **** um don't trust their work anyway!
Hi Guys
So, I made an appointment at HD of Winnipeg about 2-3 weeks ago to check out vibration as previously described. When booking the appointment I asked the service manager if he had issues about checking the bike because it was bought at Gaslight Harley and they said no problem... I brought the bike in Tuesday supper time to be checked Wednesday. I get a call from a service guy saying he has bad news, we can't check the bike today and probably not this week??? I said Why did I set up appointment then? I go down there and the service guy tells me that "We have to do what we are told by our supperiors"!!! I asked if the owner told them not to check it out? He nodded yes!So it turns out that the owner told the service guys that they could not look at the bike because it is from another dealer. Talk about petty! You would think an owner of an HD dealer would have better things to do???
Another bullshit move, first time in 28 years of riding I brought a bike into a dealer for work (because of warranty purposes). U S here I come if I can't figure it out, but I will as I have always!!! Good forum here!
Take care, I will post when I find the problem, maybe it will help someone in the future!
Thats the silliest thing Ive ever heard. Most dealerships make their money in the service department, not selling the actual product. They should relish the fact that you decided to bring your bike there for service and not somewhere else.
Thats a dick move on their part. Sorry you had that experience.
