Default 08 Fat Bob tuner question

Hello,
I have a 2008 Fat Bob with a Rinehart crossback exhaust already on it. I am going to be getting a Screamin Eagle Heavy Breather air cleaner, and I have read a ton of threads about tuners but I still am having trouble deciding which one would be good for me. I really dont want to mess around changing maps and connecting it to my computer because I have a Mac. I just want something to give me some good performance with a richer fuel mixture that I can plug in and not have to adjust. Anybody have any ideas?

Kinda depends on what you want or are willing to spend.

My first choice for cheepest-XEID's @ around 100 bucks. Not a tuner but will trick the ECM into giving the bike more fuel, 5 minute install, no adjusting.

My first choice for most expensive-TTS tuner with a quality dyno tune. Bike reflashed for life..nothing attached to your bike

I was actually looking into the RC Xcelerator, something up to 400 would be ok for now, unless it really makes a huge difference I would consider spending over that. I read that the Xieds don't really do much, that I should spend my money on a tuner instead. Are there any good options for my price range?

You kinda get what you pay for. I ran the XEID's for 6 months and know they do what they claim. (check out nightrider.com, a lot of info there) I bought the XEID's for a temporary fix until I saved enough to do it right.

There are many tuners and just as many opinions here. Do your homework or you'll be spending twice.

Make sure if you are buying a tuner that it will adjust more then just the fuel and that it will reflash your ECM and not be attached to the bike.

If your stuck on spending just 400 bucks and have to spend it now, I would go power commander from fuel moto and have Jamie load in a map for your mods. The Power commander will have to stay on your bike and you want to be really careful of getting it wet.

I have 600 bucks total into my tune and its the best money I ever spent. Dropped the bike off in the morning and picked it up late the same afternoon. No fuss, no adjusting...done for life. I smiled the whole way home. It isn't just about the extra power, it's how smoothly it goes through all the gears.

By the way, are you planning more engine mods down the road?

there are numerous options, but none for Mac that I could find. Ended up buying a $300 computer.

For now, just the intake and exhaust, but later on, who knows. I was looking at the 107' S&S top end stuff, I was also looking at a regular 103' kit from harley. I'm not trying to go crazy, I would like some more performance but mostly just to get the bike running the way it should. I would consider doing something like you did, just that I don't really know anywhere in my area that does performance stuff like that, Which is why I'm looking at programmers. I do have a local dealer, but I haven't checked with them to see what options I have with them.

Many people have recommended the Power Vision, but would the Autotune Pro be a worthwhile investment? I saw a few maps they had online, and they had one for my exact setup. So unless I change something, I just tune it once and I'm good to go for life right?

Well, let me first say that I am a complete novice with the Power Vision.

If you found a map that matches your mods, I'm willing to bet you'll be fine with that. I have a 2012 Fat Bob and did a stage one myself. Bought the Power Vision and loaded the recommended map from DynoJet. Bike runs great! Very small amount of decel pop. Not really bothersome. I mounted the PV and plan on doing some basic auto tunes and see if it gets any better.

The PV has two versions of auto tune. Basic and Pro. The basic uses the bikes stock factory O2 sensors. Pro comes with wide band sensors.

I'm pretty happy with it so far.

To answer your question YES if there is a map that matches your set up and you like the way it works then your done and the PV sleeps in it's box until the day you need it. Sweet ain't it!!?

What he said for the PV especially at 400$. I used it at first with the basic auto tune (comes with the unit), but you can only tune certain aspects with that. I have the auto tune now and it works so well I didn't have to tune it more than once or twice and I'm set now until any future mods. Any and every future mod that is.
but if you can score a PV for 400 and find a map on the dynojet site you'll be all good until you make a mod, that would be the way to go IMO. What's more I felt a definite seat 'o the pants power boost right off the get go after install.
Plus the folks at dynojet will help you out for map modifications (if needed).
