Frame wise and all it should just bolt up w/o any problems. Where you'll run into possible trouble is the FXDX has handlebar mounted instrumentation and the WG has everything on the tank. The FXDX has a tach and speedo, most WG's have only a speedo in the console. Other than the instruments, you'll have to rewire the gauges unless you can get the harness connections also. Best bet may be to find a complete tank with working instruments and all on the tank.
Thanks for the posts. This is good news. I have a modified fxdx with inverted forks and a chubby t-bar. I don't have any instrumentation (was living in TX where it's legal). Now I've moved and need a speedo, odometer, turn signals. So I'm going to shop for a fxdwg tank and console. I'm sure the wiring will be fun, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Thanks again.
If the wiring doesn't scare you. Why don't you put on a new 06-07 wideglide tank from e bay ( I got a wide glide tank with both front and rear fender brand new for $275.00)You can use all your old wiring for the gauge. The console from the dealers is about $100.00 you will need to get a connector for the sending unit and a top plateabout $60.00 If your up for it.You have to cut the to side tangs off of the tank to fit. and drill 1 hole in the backbone to attach the rear of the tank to the top tang on the tank.
I'll be looking for a tank on ebay. So all the tanks from '07 going back to 2000 have the same mounts? Or will I avoid the cutting and drilling by buying a '00 tank? My bike's a 2000.
Actually Dglide04 your right and your wrong. They are longer but if you cut the 2 rear side tabs off and use the top rear tang and drill a mounting hole to mount it by thenthey bolt right on with no seat issues and I have pic's to prove it. If your looking for something you won't have to spend 10 minutes to cut 2 tangs and drill 1 hole then you are better off looking for a 96-03 tank.
