Spent the weekend putting Alloy Art strut LEDs on and moving my front signals to the forks. I also installed Badlands Illuminator on my 2007 FXDB.
Strut lights w/Illuminator work great. I then went to the front signals. Started with the left side. Wired/solder the black, blue, and purple wires. Tested: worked great.
Right side, I again wired/solder the black, blue and purple wires. Tested: worked fine.
After I put everything back on, that's when things went nutty. When I turn the ignition on, the left light comes on and stays on. I hit the right signal, it flashes (along with the rear). Hit the left signal, the rear works fine, but it does that "flash five, then double-time".
I've gone through every trouble shoot with Badlands and my service manual. I can't figure it out.
Anyone have any experience with this? I would prefer trying to fix this myself before giving the dealership my next months rent.
Hmm haven't used that set up before. I would start to back track through it and try to find were the problem is. If everything thing worked before its gonna be something simple. Take your time and don't over think it. Wiring can be a bear. Good luck with it.
U say front tested fine. U mean the wires or the lights worked fine until u mounted them ? An u actually spoke with Badlands ? If lights worked. Dismount you at a time. Isolate the problem. See if anything changes. Were there any new grounds added ? Bad ground ? Pinched wires? Bad bulbs ? Led eg.thing ?
I had the same problem when I used the turn signal relocation for my 2012 fxdwg. The problem was that when I put the new light assembly into the bullet turn signals something wasn't met up right and wasn't getting good connection causing it to do the same as you speak of. Also the lights would dim when the turn signals would be activated. I took both turn signal assemblies back out without disconnecting them from where I soldered and shrunk wrapped. Moved the assembly around in the bullet then checked until it was right and the lights worked properly.
After tracing, re tracing, reading the schematics from the service manual, I FINALLY figured it out.
It was actually pretty elementary, once I took my time:
Inside the bullet, the front signals have a very unique receptor. The bulbs are specially designed for them. There is a little tab on the receptor that A) requires that the purple wire be next to it, and B) sits very particularly inside the socket. Once I was able to make sure that both the wires were properly placed AND the little tab was set in the socket, everything fell into place!
Thanks for the advice. I'll post pics once I have the bike cleaned up.
