The flats are the baffle. The baffle is just a square cone inside the pipe. Bend 3 of them out towards the wall of the pipe. They won't go all the way, maybe within a 1/4 ". I'll try to come up with a picture. You can do a search online too but some people on it wrong.

I did it for performance. I always heard 3 worked best so I tried it and had great results. I've seen 2 work well also. Only time I've had it not work was on a sportster. I still have 3 bent with my new motor setup and it's making great power so far. I'm going to try all different ways when it's broken in and back on the dyno.

No but raised in SD. I was eating at a place in downtown Sioux Falls about 2 months ago and 4 bikes kept riding the main drag. They really wanted attention but when the cops drove by the split. Loud pipes during quiet times will get you a ticket.
