For the money, stock batteries are as good as you can buy. I know of a lot of bikes with 7 plus years on a stock battery. The record for the oldest battery I've personally change out was 10 years old and was still going strong, the guy was going on a long trip and wanted no problems. I used that battery to check other peoples bikes that were having starting problems for another 2 years.
Looking for some options here, my fairly new "Harley" battery lasted me 1.5 years and I don't want to buy another one at the dealer for $150+ for such a short life. So what battery are you running that is a good "Harley" replacement? My stock battery is the 65989-97C model, so any recommended sites?
Had the same problem with the last Moco labeled battery, 15 months, 5 of those months sitting on a shelf in the basement with a tender attached.
I bought a ETX20L from Advance Auto. Purchased online and used a coupon code and got $40 off, then picked up the battery same day. paid $65 after the coupon. I used the coupon code in march, maybe it's still good.
Stock HD for me, my 2006 original battery was seven years old and working fine. I went with a new one as the original was not liking the SE 120R that I put in, hell even the new one isn't overly happy about the 120R somedays. My 2010 Street Glide stage II 103 still has the original battery in it too. In the winter I swap one tender back and forth between the two bikes.

If you paid $150+ for your battery that lasted 1.5 years do you think you can take back to Harley and get it prorate for another battery? I mean that must be a bad batch. But you may need your receipt for the trade in. From what I have seen Harley batteries generally last a long time.
Curious what is the cranking power need for Harleys?

I wish that could be the case but no the battery is only warrantied for 1 year after purchase date.
After a less than impressive 9 months on my OEM HD battery I decided to go a completely different route and invested in a Shorai Lithium Iron battery. A bit pricy at just over $200 but it weighs in at less than 1/5 of the OEM and can handle long idle periods or heavy loads. I also sprung for their trickle charger.
Just another way to go.
