Just got a new Fat Bob! haas anyone drill out the rivets to remove the baffles on the stock mufflers and if so how do they sound. Trying to save some money!!!!!!
I have some like new cycle shack slip ons with about 250 miles on them that I will sell for $150. They look exactly like the originals. Sound pretty good! Cycle shack mhd-348.
I have done the baffle removal to the stock cans when I still had my stock exhaust on my Fat Bob. It didn't sound bad but it didn't sound great either. Definitely doable as an interim till you decide on which exhaust you want long term.
You can also buy cycle shack baffles for pretty cheap that will go in the stock cans and bolt or rivet in place of the old ones. Or check out DK Customs thunder torque inserts or even do it yourself with a home made lollipop using some washers, bolts, and nuts from the hardware store.
You will need to get the cat out of the2/1 part as soon as you remove the slips. as for sound, at worse if you don't like it put your muffs back on with metal screws at least without the cat. I also have rush 1.75 slipons on a shelf going cheap.

You do not need to remove the cat if its just for increasing the desired sound. And the air flow restriction of the catalytic is not enough to improve performance by removing it. Removing it will add some to tone and volume of sound, that is it. Not worth the effort and I tried an earlier model FB head pipe with no catalytic and the difference was not worth the cost or the effort.
