I just had my fall away checked by my local (unnamed) indy during an unrelated modification. I started feeling a clunk/crack today as I wheeled into the garage. Took me awhile to find the cause.
Unfortunately, I don't have the right socket to properly torque it per the service manual, and the fall away most likely needs to be checked again. I'll be dropping it with the indy to get it right tomorrow (hopefully). I cranked it as tight as I could with a crescent. I figure it'll be safe for 5 miles off the freeway.
It's sad that something this important wasn't done properly by someone I trust(ed).
Not disagreeing that its too loose but you definitely dont want to monkey torque it on there. They are not supposed to be super tight. By the looks of it its the same setup as my 2001, I know the WG has a different steering head setup and calls for a torque value of 35-40 ftlbs, all other dyna models you tighten the bolt so forks have no noticeable shake and turn left/right freely. Overtightening stem nut will cause the bearings to wear excessively leading to early bearing replacement.
Realized its not at all the same as my bike after looking at the video again. Sorry for the input. Maybe it helped someone with an older model. Good luck
