I had to relocate for my setup on a 2012 Street Bob. I was looking for a way for my wife to ride occasionally and still maintain the clean look when riding solo. I decided to go with the detachable hardware. When I decided to get saddle bags I already had most of the hardware needed except for the turn signal relocation kit. I found the ghost brackets which are lockable and will mount to the HD dock with the included hardware and work with the detachable sideplate/sissybar on or off. As far as I know they can be used with most any saddle bags. I ended up buying a set of saddle bags from the company that I bought the ghost brackets from. They don’t have a lot of room but I can carry a few odds and ends for a day trip and they fit behind the shocks well. I have had this setup for a year and had no issues. Below are the pieces I had to purchase. All but the last two came from Harley. Pictures attached.
HD docking hardware 53797-09
HD detachable side plates 52124-09
HD upright bar 52300020
HD backrest 52612-95
HD sundowner seat 51540-06
HD turn signal relocation kit 68227-09

Ghost brackets GP-HD-DNA06DBK-106
Saddle bags ED-SBR-110

Anyway, I went ahead and grabbed the relocation kit from my dealer this afternoon, and I'm going to give it a shot installing it.

I do like the idea of being able to detach it for looks.

As far as theft goes, don't they sell lockable latches, so they shouldn't be able to easily detach it without a key?

Is theft of detachable items like this a big problem?
I personally like the option of being able to remove the sissy bar/luggage rack. If you remove the pins from the amp connector in the tail light you can avoid splicing the turn signal wires. Forum member Mudd has a good write up on how to do this
