HD also says you need a special spring compressor to compress the spring to allow access to that nut I mentioned. I didnt need that on my Suzuki either. I think its just another bogus marketing teqnique by HD. I just pushed the spring down by hand enuff to get my wrench on the top nut of the cartridge rod, bypassing the compressor that was supposedly required.
Another member here said he has the service procedure available. I am sure that with that information, and with you taking plenty of pics a few of us could walk you through it. I know I would be able to help some, and with the service procedure we could get thru the rest of it.
Here is a link to the DRZ fork spring install I did. If you are replacing the slider bushings and seals on your 39mm showas their will be additional steps of course. A few snap rings, driving seals in, etc...
