Looking to upgrade the lighting on my 2009 FXD. I've been looking at the HD LED and the light output is impressive. No one I know has actual experience with one outside of a showroom however.
I use LED lights at work quite a bit and am famiiar with the rather linear nature of LED. It's a great spot light, and can be a decent flood light, but its beam is tightly focused and doesn't spill much. The Daymaker seems to be a rather flat beam and I've read reviews that say when the bike is leaned in a turn this results in the light beam not illuminating the turn. Is this mainly an issue for tight twisty turns? I'm not a terribly aggressive rider and while I ride a great deal at night most of that is Interstate and city streets. I'd think that for the kind of night riding I do I should be OK, but I've been wrong before. I'd REALLY like the brighter light for those long runs between towns when every suicidal deer on Earth seems to line up along the highway in an attempt to take me with them.
Second, does the light fit the stock FXD bucket? It appears to from what I've read online but the HD website says I need a LED housing. This would not be the first time the website was incorrect...
I have one on my Street Bob. I love it. I have no issues around turns and I also do a lot of riding at night as I am a 3rd shifter. I highly recommend it especially if you do a lot of night riding. IT IS BRIGHT!
As for your second question, I dont know. It fit into my stock housing on my FXDB.
Not as true in the daytime. The narrow beam is hard to see unless directly at the person. The normal bulb sprays light everywhere so easier to see. I've been pulled over by a cop twice for not having my lights on in the daytime. At night, they are great.
Ordered it. Should be in Friday. Hopefully it will get delivered early so I can install it before I head to work. Anyone using them in an aftermarket bucket? I'd kind of like to get rid of the OEM bucket eventually but I'm not sure the Daymaker would look right in the long visored bullet buckets I'm normally drawn to.
I am using the Daymaker in my 2012 FXDC. It fit in the OEM housing beautifully. Very bright at night - you will need to adjust the aim from the stock light as it is a different beam. Easy to do and once you get it right, it is nice.
