on a softail when you sit on the bike the shocks get longer they do not compress, this are called extension shocks. its hard for me to explain i wish i had a picture, if the softail shocks get longer when you sit on the bike the problem is you have a shock that is extending and the bike is actually compressing. if the shock is extending the front wheel wont lift very well if at all.
The shock style, extension or compression, doesn't make any difference. Both serve the same function, resisting upward motion of the swingarm relative to the frame, and damping motion.

As for Stupid...I've raced bikes since the mid 70's, which makes me plenty stupid.
I've wheelied everything, well, never a Softail because I don't ride girl bikes.
And that moped above, I flat guarantee I could wheelie that!
btw, there's an old video on-line if you can find it of me doing a wheelie on a knuckle all the way through Ypsi down Ecourse, around every turn, all the way out of town before the cops busted me, and then in court...They had to prove that a Harley could do a wheelie! No joke. It was a freakin hilarious court case.
Yeah, I'm wayyy Stupid.
I feel the same about all that chrome and leather to be honest. A new generation of riders is here and we don't want to just cruise around national parks and chat with our wife's on the back through a Bluetooth intercom...
Well stated. Although I'm way too old to be part of the "new generation," I'm not old enough to be into standing around the dealership's parking lot on weekends with the other HOG members showing off my new leather chaps.
I don't think doing this on public roads is too smart, but I have to admit...I love the Unknown Industries videos and the bikes are badass.
Around the 3:00 mark in this one, you get the rider's POV:
Or better yet.. When you fall off the back of that thing and get really hurt. Getting hurt and messing up your bike at the same time would kinda suck.. Lol just sayin..
