Ok, ordered a side mount for my license plate due to the rear fender crack issue. Thought it sounded like agood idea to go with the ź steel version of one of these, but now I'm realizing that I don't really have a ź of extra shock mount bolt to accommodate it. More like zero inches extra shock mount bolt. At best the nut might catch a couple threads and I can't get it to do that much.
Any suggestions on where to get a good replacement bolt that will hopefully just be a 1/4 increment increase over the stock bolt so it doesn't extend past the swingarm when installed?
This side plate mount is no doubt built like a tank. I just didn't foresee the issue with mounting it because it is so thick.
I wanna say they are 1/2 inch x 13 thread count. Just take out you old one go to the hardware store and get the correct length. It should be real easy to figure out at a hardware store. Also Harley updated the rear fender, if it cracks most dealers will replace them. Even if out of warranty period.
2 1/2 nailed it - it's an ugly hardware store bolt compared to stock, but it will work for now. Thanks again. I just hate going in there without having clue one what I'm looking for. Only $2 at Lowes, but it's not very pretty. LOL

If you didn't buy grade 5 or grade 8 bolt you might want to consider doing so.

Oh yeah, got a Grade 8 bolt. That was part of my gripe. It's probably not going to be easy to find a 'pretty' Grade 8 bolt that fits. I had the impression the stock bolt would work. I'll get by though until I can find a better looking one.

I replaced mine with grade 8 bolts and painted them black... they look good to me.
