Got my fairing for my 13 FB on Friday. It comes unpainted, but with instructions on painting. Mounts with two HD quick release clamps, locking or non. Which leads to a complaint. Shopping around for a straight black paint job. The cheapest I have been quoted was 350.00. Any forum members in the San Diego area have a paint booth, or know someone that does?

When painting small parts like your faring you can easily do it in a clean garage by simply making a temporary spray booth using plastic, duct tape and a staple gun. You will simply staple plastic sheets to the ceiling letting them hang down to the floor, duct tape them together. Prior to spraying wipe down the inside with a shop rag that you spray with either anti-static spray or WD40.
You can hang the faring from the ceiling with fishing line attached to a drywall screw set into the ceiling.
I am assuming you own a compressor, a paint gun, and have done some painting before.
I have painted several similar sized parts in gloss paint using this process many times with outstanding results.

If you're gonna rattle can it I recommend doing several coats but using a heat gun warm up the can first then shake then warm up again then shake, then paint.
Prior to painting I recommend scuffing the surface with 400 grit wet sandpaper and laying down a couple of light coats of a sand able primer. Then lightly sand before paint and wipe down (prefer with a tack cloth) to remove dust.
Depending on the brand be sure to do light coats, overlapping by .5" allow to set up for 5 minutes and repeat. Do about 5 light coats then do a final wet coat. Allow to completely dry for at least 24 hours. Wet sand with 400 grit, then repeat with 600 grit. Polish with Polishing compound (not Rubbing compound!). Then wax with a good wax.
Brands: Meguiars, 3M, or something of equal quality.
Take your time. You can get good results with a rattle can if you follow these steps.

^ I have used this technique to paint various things around my bike, as well as friends of mine. The best denim black rattle can I've found is Rustoleum Satin black. Its almost a dead match. It sprays really well too, especially if you heat it up a bit first. Good tips in here. You can have it painted for less than $30.
