I agree with a lot of what you're saying. The few times HD does try a "performance" model, they usually fall flat on their faces. The FXDX, the XR1200, even the XL1200R were all examples of bikes that strayed from the "core" HD audience, and as a result, have all been discontinued.
Damn, I loved my XR1200...and I had a 883R, converted to 1200.
The fatbob rear fender pre 14 is ugly no matter what bike its on, the bobtail that looks nice is the one that was on the nighttrain that bobtail was decent

Ironically, I think the current Wide Glide would look better with the old Wide Glide/pre-'14 Fat Bob bobtail fender.
Does Harley still make a bike with the bobtail fender now? I don't think they've had a Softail with a bobtail for a few years, left the Wide Glide in '08, and now not on the Fat Bob either.
I saw the vivid black at the dealer by my house today. Despite the horrible pics online I actually really liked it! The stripe on the tank looked good, the taillights look good (on the vivid black at least), and I love the black wheels, especially in the rear when it's coupled with the black flywheel. Only thing I really disliked was the black dual headlight cover. But yeah, if I didn't just buy mine I'd pick it up.
I rode one the day we got it in. I know it shouldn't be really any different than last years, but something about it was. I have always liked the way the fat bob rides, but this one was even better. Fast and felt like it was on a rail. I do think they should have put the rear signals in the middle of the tail lights as amber LEDs.
I really like the rear fender. I would stick it on my 13 wide glide if I knew it would fit. So if anyone buys a 14 fat bob and wants to trade fenders hit me up.
