like i said in my earlier post, composite rotors, good shocks, gold valves, mid controls, composite rotors, some type of cafe fairing(fxdb headlight), hot motor, exhaust(vance & hines competition series), and some joker or rsd 49mm clip ons, or maybe a real low dirt bike bar(pro tapers) on 1-2 inch risers.
this bike a has great potential to look like a pumped 80s sport bike, even with the new fender. the new fender would look proper with the mods i have suggested.
only problem is the mods i have suggested arent really what most harley riders are into, probably just those of us under 30 yrs old.
but i think the new fender will grow on some people, i remember when chevy, dodge, and ford went to the new body styles i was a kid like 12 or 13 maybe. i remember thinking these dont look like a real truck, but sure enough seems like they grew on people.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. The few times HD does try a "performance" model, they usually fall flat on their faces. The FXDX, the XR1200, even the XL1200R were all examples of bikes that strayed from the "core" HD audience, and as a result, have all been discontinued. I owned all of the above bikes, and now regret selling them. HD seems to be in a "how low can you go" phase, sacrificing handling for style. I understand HD makes the type of bikes they can sell, but I'd really like to see them open up their Factory Custom program and allow customers to really customize a bike. It would be nice to be able to order a Fat Bob with mid-controls, upgraded suspension, etc. right from the factory. Hell, it would be cool if they still offered the XR1200, maybe just as a factory only custom. HD has been talking about their new manufacturing flexibility, it's time they put it to use.
Hi guys Glad I got the 2013 Fatty, cos mine is orange. I think the new rear mudguard(fender-Im a limey) is hideous. I agree that the 2013 bob was too long, but with a rack, and backrest,it looks balanced. I have 2" longer ICON triple rate shox, and a TALLBOY seat, so now at 6ft 3 in the bike looks like it fits me,and doesn't ground the exhaust every time you look at a bend. My bike was built with mid controls, cos I also have a 2012 XR1200X, and didn't want to swap between rearsets and forward pegs. This is my second Harley(XR is the 1st) and I love it.
Rick
I'm currently in the process of getting all the part numbers so i can swap out my 2010 fat bob fender for the 2014 fender and taillight.
I have the fender part number for vivid black: 59500135DH
Now I just need to get the part number for the tailight and kit or find out exactly which components I need to mount the tail light and license frame....

Give it a few months Izzy. Someone like Custom Dynamic orCycle Vision will come out with a good looking aftermarket tag/tail/signal combo. That fender is a prime target for an aftermarket fix. Although, in a vivid black the taillight blends better than with other colors.
