bike build date

I remember seeing a post or two on how to tell, from the VIN, the date your bike was built - but now I can' tfind them...Can anyone help?

My build date is on the vin tag/sticker on the frame of the bike. It is a 2006.

According to the owners manual, it doesn't give the build date in the VIN, just the year it was made and its' introduction date, that is, if it was a regular production or a cosmetic change, or mid change. Other than that, if you still have your vin tag/sticker on, it will tell you the date it was bulit there.

The VIN does give the bikes production number which your dealer should be able to tell you when the bike was built from that number. It may not be an exact date but it will get you close, withing a few days.

The exact build date came on a seperate piece of paper when I bought my bike. It's got a large UPC code at the top, then the serial below that and the build date below that. Some dealers may not bother giving that sheet to the customer.
