Default Affordable Fuel Management?

I have the Kuryakyn Mach II Air Cleaner and Vance and Hines Short Shots.

I am getting REALLY bad popping on decel.. I am assuming I need fuel management of some sort, what is the best, most cost effective way to accomplish this, and eliminate the popping.

Also, I have considered upgrading to Vance and Hines Big Shots, and have read the popping happens alot of the Short Shots... Is this a problem with the Short Shots that is eliminate by different pipes rather than Fuel Management?

Are you running baffles? An inexpensive fuel adder like the Dobeck TFI/DFO is easy to use and install. Arlen Ness sells a rebranded one called a Cheap Shot. I have used the Cheap Shot and was/am very happy with what it does- add fuel. It does not adjust timing as the more expensive ones do. I'm sure someone will chime in about Xieds, but I don't have any experience with those.

Even with the top of the line tuner, you may not be able to eliminate decel popping with the short shots...they are also one of the worse pipes for performance. The big shots, on the other hand, are one of the best 2-2 pipes made. The XEID's are the best bang for your buck to add some fuel. I used them for 6 months and they work great for what they are. They are not considered a tuner, but for 100 bucks they work pretty good.

If you can afford it get the big shots and the XEID's...and then save up for a real tuner for the future.

The most affordable fuel management is the factory system, which will automatically do a pretty good job of compensating for an air cleaner and exhaust change. Popping on decel isn't necessarily an indication of bad fuel management. In fact, to eliminate it, you need to take air/fuel ratio outside the combustible range.

My short shots pop pretty badly on decel. I think of it as one more safety factor. If they don't see you, maybe they'll wake up when some firecrackers go off.

The "Big Radius" pipes on my other bike are a little quieter, and pop less on decel. I'm not unhappy with either, but think that the Big Radius are a little better looking. But so do lots of other people, judging from how often they show up. So sometimes you need to throw that junk aside if you want do something more unique and different.

You can get rid of the popping on short shots. My don't pop on decel at all, but I have a thundermax with a fuel moto tune. Not an inexpensive solution though.

cheap fair fuel manager xieds, a little better add a vance and hines fuelpak, you can do it yourself without a computer or dyno, that's the easiest way. as far as cost 100.00 for the xieds and a used fuelpak runs 150-175.00 on ebay they work well together and give a decent result.

I have the short shots on my 2011 wideglide and I have no popping on decel.
I bought the fuel moto micro tuner and there stage 1 ac. The tuner was $199.00 and if you buy the stage one ac,$100.00 at the same time they knock of$ 30.00 or so.

if you don't plan on doing cams( which I didn't think I would be, but I am now) the micro will work plus they are great people to deal with

Keep in mind the fuel Moto micro tuner and the PC's eliminate the o2 sensors.
