I have some three ring ISO pegs mounted about 3/4 the way up on the front side of the engine guard. I am 6'1" and I can either lay my heel on top and really stretch out or put my feet on them and have just a little bend at my knees. They were very comfortable on my 1400 mile road trip this summer.
They come in Black or Chrome and have 10 different adjustment settings, over more than an 8" range.
At the bottom of the link above are some pics showing the large range.
Damn, Kevin...those are sweet! Wish they were around before I shoveled out the cash for the HD chrome only to pay someone to pc them black. And they still don't look half as good as yours.
OP, DK Customs also makes a heel rest that will add about an inch of extra width to your pegs. I had them on mine with a pair of Avon pegs and they came out much further than the HD pegs.
I have the the HD adjustable ones now. The length away from me is fine, it's just my legs are slammed up against the AC. A engine guard may be a option though.
Sounds like you might benefit from a Low Profile Hi-Flow Air Cleaner!
If you measure how far the outside edge is of the peg from the frame, I can let you know if we have something that will stick out further.
