Here's another suggestion and will keep your frame perfectly LEGAL. Why not buy the OEM frame with your VIN on it and then have that chopped to fit your idea of what it should be? That way, there is no hassle with registration, the numbers all match, your parts will fit and you could end up with a one off custom that's still a registered HD. Just thought it would be a good alternative.

Once you change your frame it is no longer a HD in the eyes of the insurance company....all of the sudden it is a "custom". I just went through this with my insurance company....

You better find a new dealer. I bought a replacement frame for my 1999 FXDX from the dealer for just under $1000. I had to cut the neck off my frame and give it to them, but I got a replacement with the same VIN as the old one. No title or insurance issues. Of course if you have the money to spend or want to customize your bike, then the Atlas frame looks like a good way to go.

My dealer is Harley Davidson Sales and Service in Napoleon Ohio.
I bought the frame a little over 2 years ago. I doubt the price increased that much (even for Harley). They may have taken some pity on me, but not to the tune of a 50% discount.

Thanx to everyone for their input. I have researched and researched and have come to the decision since I am changing the front end to a DNA springer anyway I might as well buy an aftermarket frame. Insurance is not my concern and HD numbers aren't either. This is my 14th bike starting with Beezers and Trumps (60's) and moving to Hogs (80's). I have a few places to call in the morning to find out what they can do for me. I called 5 HD dealerships from Tennessee to Florida and the lowest stock price I found was $2000.25 w/o taxes[:'(]. I have my frame at my welder's shop now and we have been talking of "fixing" it and building my own frame. I have been trying to find specs for rubber mounts etc but have as yet had no luck[X(].

Does anyone have access to HD frame specs? If so how much and when?
I have not mentioned in this forum that I just retired and sold my machine shop (auto, diesel, marine). I am not a general machinist just a master auto one and have worked in this area for 40 years. Surface grinder, Neway, seat and guide machines, boring bars, flywheels, etc that's my expertise not finding specs for HD.

Any help would be appreciated.[8D]

Thanx,
Rick[&:]
