Default 2013 vs 2014 Street Bob Differences

I've been looking at the Street Bobs. One dealer has three 2013s they're trying to get rid of. Another dealer has one 2014. The dealer with the 2013s is willing to give me a "pretty substantial price break" to move the old model year bike.

I know of two differences for sure... 2014 has the 103 motor and a new compensator. The specs state the 2014 has a 6th gear indicator that the 2013 doesn't have. I cannot readily see any other major differences from the specs or from pictures.

The specs do also indicate a number of differences in measurements. I'm guessing maybe those are due to the different motor, but overall length is different as well. One of the sales guys told me they have a longer frame. I'm not sure I buy that.

So... anyone know of other differences?

If you do not mind not having the 103, then go for the 13'!

I would go for the 103 though.

How much of a price difference is there in the 2 bikes? That's kinda what you have to weigh out and make your decision based off of. I haven't ridden a Dyna with a 96, only my fat bob which has the 103. However I got a really good deal on mine, it was a leftover 2012 that they really wanted to move.

As far as the sales guy telling you it has a different frame... I don't know but I doubt it. I could be wrong though. Doesn't make much sense why they would change the frame unless the old one couldn't accommodate the 103 motor but like I said, that doesn't make much sense.

So overall, I would like at the out the door price difference on the 2 bikes and go from there. Go back and tell the guy with the 13 he needs to cut you a bigger break and see what happens. Worse they can say is no.

I don't think anything has changed. The 103 was an option for '13, so nothing would have to change for the 103 to be standard. The 6th gear indicator has been around for a while. If the '13 is significantly cheaper I'd go with that one. You can easily make the 96" more powerful than the 103" with the money you save.

I would personally go with the 103 Motor. You can still probably pickup a 2013 of another model unless your heart is set on a Street bob or wait another 8 months and pick up a 2014 when the 15's come out.

The wheelbase is the same for both years, but the 2014 is 1.5" longer. Don't know why, but if the wheelbase is the same it probably means no change in the frame.
It's a tough decision as to which one to buy, depends on what a "substantial" discount they offer. When you realize that the 2013 has already depreciated a year I think there would have to be a pretty big difference. It may not matter if you plan to keep the bike for many years, but it could be a consideration.

The only differences are paint and the 103 being standard.

The '13 models had an option for the 103 and the SE compemsator has been in the 103 for a while now (2011 and on I believe.) I'm not sure about the compensator in the 96.

My '13 has the sixth gear indicator, so that's not new. My 103 also has the SE compensator from the factory.

I can't imagine why the length is shown as different unless they are counting the fender mounted license plate holder (which is stock in some countries that don't allow side mounts.)

Have to agree, my 13 has the 103 and gear indicator. The HD site shows a difference in length but I wouldn't imagine the frame is different. I guess the only way to be sure is put a 13 and 14 side by side.

There is a new compensator for 2014 that is available as a retrofit kit: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...in-compensator

My understanding is it is now standard on 2014 models and resolves the issues the older versions had. At least that's what I've read.

Interesting. They just upgraded the stock Dyna compensator to the SE version a few years ago. Now an even stronger version.
