Having mid-controls with forward highway pegs is common. Does anyone have any experience having forward controls with mid-mount auxiliary pegs?
I have an 01 Super Glide T-sport with forward controls. After a 5k mile summer tour I decided to put on a set of mid-mount pegs in addition to my forwards. Got a rusted set from e-bay and am having them blasted and powder coated.
My reasoning is: I am comfortable with the forwards (Pilot Iso with stirrup) but on day-after-long-day my quads got tight. I sometime rode using the passenger pegs. Sometimes in the twisties, I wanted to put more weight on my inside peg. Once in a while I wanted to stand up to either take the weight off my spine on a very bumpy back road for example or when the uncontrollable urge to dance the Chicken Dance overtakes me.
I have forward controls and I have the mid-mount pegs all for the same reasons you stated. I have gout which causes my legs and knees to ache and cramp when they stay in one position too long. I can put my feet on the mid pegs wich allows my back to straighten up or put feet on forwards to recline a bit. I bought a set of take offs from the dealer and remounted them using my passenger pegs.
You can see the pegs in the picture. I have edge cut pegs on forwards and mids and put OE rubber pegs on paasenger mounts. They work for me.
I'm getting them from the powder coater on Friday and am leaving for Nevada on Saturday. I won't have time to test them.
I'm glad no one is telling me I'm out of my mind, that I'll trip over my pant legs at stop lights or that my dog will bark at me.
I am sure it's been done before, I've just never seen it. Glad that a few of you have done it too and are alive to tell the tale.
Hope you are never riding behind me when the Chicken Dance hits.
