My 08 Fat Bob came with forward controls and I put mid pegs on after doing a long-ish (70 miles, no stops) trip. I starting getting pretty uncomfortable with just the forward controls, so I bought the pegs and mounts and threw on the mids. I still ride with the forwards 85% of the time, but it's nice having a second place to rest my feet.

regardless of your height keep the mids and get highway pegs for a change of pace. I'm 6'1 and have much better handling, a less hunched over seating position that helps my back, and I can stand up when needed for big bumps. Forward controls are definitely a deal breaker for me.

Thanks all.

Really, really grateful for your input. I'm going to keep the mids and get highway pegs. I worried being tall would be an issue in the long run, but it looks like you can just do more with mids, even if it's just getting some pressure off your ***.

Mine came with forwards and I switched to mids just to try it out. One if the best moves comfort wise that I've made. I'm 5' 10" with 33" inseam. As said before the feel of the bike from a handling stand point for me is great with the mids. Also, if I'm making a longer haul and I get a bit uncomfortable I can stand up on the mids without having to pull over and get off. I've got highway pegs but was just thinking the other day about taking them off because I RARELY use them.

Another +1 for the mids + highways. I also like the idea of forwards + mid pegs.

One other suggestion when you pick out your highway peg brackets; Research different manufacturers. I bought the Harley adjustable ones and after the initial price + powder coating, I could of got something very similar for half the price in the color I wanted and with more adjustable options.

Mid controls all day please. I did the forwards thing once and while it was more comfortable at first, that comfort soon went bye-bye after 100+ miles with all of your weight directly on your ***. Not to mention the bumps and dips in the road being transferred directly to your spine. Additionally, my legs just got tired of being in that position after awhile and I ended up bringing them back and perching my heels on the primary and any crevice I could find on the motor.

For day to day riding I am all about mids, but I don't deny the benefits of having mids + highway pegs for distance when you may want to move your feet/legs around.

Keep the mid controls. You will have far more control over the bike and be able to ride a lot harder with mids. Its a Dyna, not a soft tail and it comes with mid controls for a reason.

X2, my bike came with forwards and Im pretty used to them because my last fxdwg had them also. I wanted to try mids so I threw on the brackets and pegs. I like them but when Im using them I get a little nervous because I cant shift if there is a sudden need. I might end up going with mids and then adding highway pegs instead.

Another on the Mid's with Highway pegs, my bike came with mid's and always wanted forwards but instead opted for highway pegs and it's such a pleasure to be able to stretch out on the open road or in light traffic and then pull your feet back when you want to manoeuvre quickly or on bumps etc.

2 places for feet is great you will not regret it.
