It's nice to be able to move your feet around. I only have forwards on both bikes, so I occasionally even use the passenger pegs a little bit on long rides. Pretend I'm a racer with rear-sets. LOL
I have mids and highway pegs on the FXDX, perfect setup for me and I'm 6'3"
The Fat bob only has forwards, and I hate it. I have a set of take off mids and I'm going to put just the pegs on for now and see how that goes, if not I'll be getting an inner and outer primary and doing the swap
One of the reasons I chose the Street Bob over the Fat Bob was I didn't like the forwards on the Fat Bob.
I'm definitely more comfortable with the mids and I feel like I have much better control over the bike.
As many others have said I'll still probably add highway pegs so I have room to stretch my legs.
I'll go the opposite direction....I hate mids. I have a 34" inseam and the mids just cramp me up something terrible & kill my back, so I put forwards on my FXDC & love the position. I do have the mid pegs still, and have had them on the bike in addition to the forward controls for another foot position, but I never used them so I took them back off.
Forwards are just way more comfortable for ME, but everyone is different.
My next step will be to add adjustable floorboards in place of the pegs using the stock forward mounts (not the FLD kit).
I've always been on a sport bike or dirtbike, so I thought mids were the only way to go. I rode a fat bob with fowards and a street bob with mids back to back. I'm 5' 10" with short 30" inseam, but I was seriously cramped with the mids. Maybe it's my size 12 boots? The forwards were way more comfy.
On my old dyna, it came with mids but the previous owner put fowards on it. I added mid pegs so I have both. I use the fowards 99% of the time. Maybe at 80mph with a headwind, I'll pop down the mid pegs and anchor my feet there.
My advice? Ride both. Oh, and it's easier to add fowards than to add mids after you have the bike.
X2, my bike came with forwards and Im pretty used to them because my last fxdwg had them also. I wanted to try mids so I threw on the brackets and pegs. I like them but when Im using them I get a little nervous because I cant shift if there is a sudden need. I might end up going with mids and then adding highway pegs instead.
It's not too bad, if things look like it might get hairy I roll with one foot forward and one foot back. It's kinda nice being able to rotate a bit in the seat.
Thanks Sharkman73. I have been considering the HD Heel Raiser Footpeg Kit (part #50178-09) or the Mini Footboard Kit (#50451-09). Despite what my user name suggests, I have a '13 Fat Bob which has to be one of the most difficult models to fit with anything resembling floorboards.
