Default Internal Wiring bars 08fxd ??

Just a quick question, I thought I ordered dimpled Z bars but they are not, drilled for internal wiring instead so I'm going to attempt that. Have the old ones off and new ones bolted on to mock up and measure wiring.

My question is about accessing the connectors for the wiring, I pulled the grommets out of the frame and can almost get one connector out the hole in the neck but the others don't look close, Do I need to pull the tank so I can get to the frame backbone to access these? If so I gotta get hose clamps etc before I go any further.

THanks
Justin

reach under the neck of the frame above the front rocker box, pull out a plastic moon shaped cover. then you can push the wires up and move em around a bit

If you need to get more access you can lift the tank and put a 2x4 under it. You will need to remove the front and rear mounting bolts and disconnect the main fuel line. This is a quick disconnect fitting. The front cross over line can stay as there is enough slack in the hose to lift the tank.

Thanks, the front is the one I was thinking I would have to get clamps for, I will try moving it with it on. I used to pull the tank on my FXR all the time but right now it has those factory clamps on the crossover and its full of gas of course.

I just take off both tank bolts, put rags over the heads to protect them, de-pressurize the fuel system, pull the main fuse, disconnect the quick connect fuel line to the tank, and pull the tank back.

I agree.Lifting the tank will gain you a little extra clearance above the rocker covers and that plastic piece has two arms extending up from it that snap into the frame, push them in together and you can lower that piece out of the frame to access the wires. You can pull and jiggle quite hard to get the wires and connectors out the hole where the rubber plug was. Left one on the left side, probably gray and the right connector from the right side, probably black. You shoud be able to pull them out about 10" if you need to.
