Why don't you just buy the big sucker chrome cover for 65 bucks? I run my filter open and have never had any issues even in the rain.
I have considered it, but I did that on a Sporty once & the filter just got packed full of bugs and I ended up having to replace the filter often. I love the look, but would rather have it somewhat protected for this reason.
Anyone know if there's a way to fit a "Sportster" oval cover on a TC intake? I love the classic lines of my FXD & would love to give it a bit more of a retro vibe.
One thing to add here shark, i have a 13 Sb and it came stock with that first cover you posted a pic of. Well, when i first got my FM a/c I wanted to keep that stock old school look, so I kept that cover on there. everything fit fine and i thought it was great. after a while, i decided i wanted the open filter look, so i began looking for one of the end covers. i found one in classifieds for pretty darn cheap and i love the look of it, but the one thing that i had never considered and was quickly realizing was how much heat that stock cover had been trapping/collecting. it used to be that i would have to be careful after riding for a while because the stock cover would become quite hot....probably could burn you. now, with the open filter i can touch anywhere around the air filter without any concern or worry. it was a real eye opener for me, especially when cooler air helps the engine....well, with the a/c covered up by that stock cover and it basically acted like a funnel for the heat coming off the engine, i could only imagine that the air being pulled in would have been much warmer too. maybe that's not as much a factor, but the amount of perceived heat from the saddle was a big ah-ha for me to the point that i won't go back to a full cover again. as far as bugs and such in the filter...they are washable filters....why would you need to replace?
Just ordered 18-507.
While I'm waiting on it to get here I'll find a cover I like. May make a trip to my dealer over the weekend & see what they have in the take off bin or may just get the bobber cover.
Sharkman, if you want my stock AC cover, you can have it for the cost of shipping. It has some light scratches from the box it was in, but it was only used for 14 miles before it came off.

Squid, I'm off work today & gonna run over to my dealer & see if there's anything in their parts bin they would get rid of on the cheap, or get that bobber cover possibly. If that doesn't pan out I'll take you up on your offer.
Any idea what shipping would be? You already have my address & zip..
I currently have the SE stage 1 breather kit, which performs well, but I'm wanting to change it out to a round kit for looks & so I can use any cover I choose basically. Wanting to go with a round bobber cover of some sort, maybe the optional one available for the FXDB from HD.
Looking at the Ness Big Sucker & S&S Stealth kits...anyone have any opinions on this or preference?
I see a ton of people running the big suckers.
It seems hard to find the correct part #s...one site says one & another site has a different part #, so I'm a little confused.
The part # I am looking at is 18-507...this is the chrome backing plate with the red filter. Can someone that has the big sucker confirm that this part # will fit my '12 Dyna?
If its not to late to add some input. Those breather bolts that DK makes are awesome. It might just be in my head but, adding those made the throttle feel a lot crisper. Also, the motor doesnt start to feel more tired after its been running a while. It allows the intake to only suck cold clean air which is better for power and engine life. I rarely get any misting, but when I do its very light, and under the gas tank, very easy to wipe off while I fill up at the gas station.
They look great too!
Would there be any need for a reprogram? I've been tossing around this same thing, but was told by the dealer I would need to reprogram.
I do have a Stage 1 intake on it now.
