Just about ready to pull the trigger
Hi Forum! My first and only bike is a 2007 XL 50 (1200) and a dealer is going to give me a great trade on a NEW 2013 Wide Glide vivid black with flames. (I'll basically break even with riding it 2 years). I've sat on every bike in the showroom and actually rode a 2010 WG with the 96 and it felt great! I'm 6'1"225 lbs and I love the stretched out feeling on the bike. My sporty has mini apes and forwards and just seems too cramped. It was a short test ride on the WG but it seemed to be night and day compared to the Sporty. There is also a 2013 Breakout but it didn't feel as good. Am I on the right track in what I am feeling? Or is it all in my head? With looking at the specs the breakout and WG are pretty much the same except for the rubber mounted engine and wide tires. I know it's up to me but input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Your probably on the right track. Last year I owned a Sporty, LO, and a Super Glide and there is much difference between them all. Dyna is definitely a step up from the Sporty. Between the LO and the Dyna, I love the looks of my LO, but the Dyna is quicker and revs much more easily, stronger, and faster than the LO. Unbalanced versus balanced engine thing. The Dyna feels better to me too, but it's a personal preference.
I still own the Super Glide and the Fatboy but sold the Sporty so I compare them frequently.

You are on the right track. I think you'll find that the WG has a greater lean angle than the Breakout.
The a breakout is a great looking bike. The key differences that you'll notice right away are:
The breakout will scrape hard parts sooner due to less lean angle.
The breakout rear tire is really fat and wide. This will slow the handling a bit.
The Softail engine is counterbalanced, so you'll feel it smoother.
The Dyna family handles better than the Softail family in general. The Softail suspension is just cushier.
The breakout weighs a bit more, has one degree more rake, and has a slightly lower seat height.

Seems like most of us dyna owners came off of a sporty. Kind of a natural progression, you will never look back. I would ride everything in the dyna line up before you make a decision. The wide glide is a beautiful bike but it probably doesn't handle quite as good as the rest of the dyna line. But coming off a sporty, you will love any of them...
