Just bought this 1994 Lowrider and it has been bored .010 over to smooth the cylinder walls, EV23 Cam, Adjustable Pushrods, and Samsom long shot pipes. It has not been ridden or tagged since 09, so the first thing I did was drain the fuel, but it still didn't seem to want to run quite right. I took the carburetor off to clean it and found a couple things wrong that will need attention, but my main question right now is...... Is there a good aftermarket american made carb kit ya'll recommend? A site sponsor that sells em? At first I was told it had a Screaming Eagle Carburetor, but after I took it off it looks like a factory Keihn to me. Maybe he meant it had SE jets. Anyway, thanks for your help! This pic was took before I rode with ATGATT. I am just glad I never went down with that illegal helmet and no gloves or good boots on.
One more thing.... The jets in the carb are a 48 on the low side and 175 for the high. Does this sound like a good combo for the mods mentioned? When I was taking everything apart it seemed to me that it was kinda throw together (ierings missing, fuel elbow cracked) and I want everything right when it's back together.
Is it stock air-cleaner set up? Any baffles in the pipes? Sounds about right jet size. I think not 100% sure but stock jetting might be 175/45? You could be a little rich on the low end. What are some of the symptoms causing you to think something isnt right? Is bike stalling, stuttering, losing power?
I had a Keihn on my 87 Sporty. It was a Screamin' Eagle Carb. When I bought it it had not run in over 10 years and still had gas (varnish in the tank and carb). With simple tools I took it apart cleaned it and put it back together. It ran perfectly. Keihn's are a breeze to work on. Oh I also had to strip and reline the gas tank with the Kreem kit. I miss that bike.
Nice bike, as for carb rebuild kits go with james gasket, I bought the cheap ebay version and regretted it. I am running 48 and 185 and it has SE cams and stage one pipes and air cleaner.
Make sure to clean the carb thoroughly if it has an accelerator pump check it also, check the fuel/air mixture screw that is behind the float bowl, screw it in until it lightly seats then turn out anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 turns as a starting point.
what are the symptons, with this we can assist a little better and help pinpoint your issue
It has an Arlen Ness breather kit with a K&N air filter, and he said the pipes he bought never had an option of baffles so they have reversions cones welded in them.
The bike runs ok, but with the old gas I had to turn the idle screw way high so it would idle. After I emptied the old gas I took if for a ride and it was idling way high so I turned it back down, but I never could get it to lope like it would back when it was being ridden often. It just sounded too consistent to have a cam in it. Consistent seems lean to me, but I am new at this.
Thanks for the recommendation on the carb kit, and I'll get everything cleaned up and back together and shoot a video. That will give ya'll a better idea.
Oh, the picture Tangerine and Cream is the color. This was shot by Killboy.com and it was about 55 degrees that day. There were very few people up there that day, so he was able to get a good shot. I have been up there probably thirty times on my other bike and never got a good enough pic to buy.
