metz or avons?
its time for new tires and i like the looks of the avon vemoms but iv'e heard alot of good things about the metzlers.iv'e heard that i can upsize to a 160 on the rear with metz.any feedback would be greatly apprecated.
I just put on a set of Avon Venom's they seem to work really good. I had the Dunlop's and I can tell a difference they ride more smoothly and are progressive into a turn but new rubber allways seem's like that. I will see how they hold up in the long run. I have never tried the Metzler on a street bike but are allway's 1st choice on my dirt bikes. They don't last as long but you can't beat the grip. I put a 150 on my 01 Wide glide I couldn't fit a 160. I will try the Metzler next time.
from what I can tell, in reading numerous discussions like this, the Avons tend to "grab" the road a bit better than the Metz, but don't last as long.
I have heard too many good things about the Metz, so I plan to put on a pair this Spring

My mechanic likes the metz...and he told me also that you could run a 160 on stock wheel w/o clearance issues.
I doubt that is here say........dude has been a mechanic and custom engine builder for 30 yrs...........hell, he even owns the patent on the adjustable push rod HD uses [yes, I have verified through US patent office].........so I figure he knows his stuff.

I like the Metzeler......... Put a replacement 160 on my 06 DynaSG.
The Metz 160 is actually narrower than the Dunlop 160.
Metzeler tires like more air, I think the 160 takes 50psi max, compared to Dunlops 42 psi.
