I went through 3 windshields to find the one for me. First was the HD Quick Detachable, then the HD QD Supersport. Both were decent for around town, but on the highway had way too much buffeting that I could never resolve.
Finally I went with a LRS (Long Ride Shield) Mustang. It mounts to your handlebars. It worked great for my cross country trip with little to no buffeting. About even with the tip of my nose.
I added 1.5" riser extenders to my bars cause I wanted my apes just a tad higher, that also brought up the windscreen. Now its just below eye level and in perfect position. Absolutely no buffeting.
I took it off a while ago for a couple weeks cause the weather was nice and I like the looks without the windscreen, but as soon as it starting getting cooler it went right back on. I dont think I will take it off again in the near future except for a good clean.
I dumped my Harley quick disconnect for a Windvest. Much better. I hated the way my blinkers stuck out. I got the largest one he makes and still look over the top. The height is adjustable. I am 6'-0". I rode 450 miles today (LA to Oroville) and feel great. They work well.
I went with Clearview Shields. Here is their website. The shield has a recurve at the top to push the air highter (you don't need as tall a windshield to get the same clearance). Another plus is the thickness of the shield. Much thicker than the HD shields.
You do need to have your own HD brackets and clamps. Clearview does not sell them.
I don't use my windshield unless it's very cold outside, or I am taking a long trip (several hundred miles). I really like the look and ride better without a shield.
