It burnt and fell apart on the forward ends. Also the ends unraveled. Helix and Moose are the best. Fuelmotos pillows are great too if they fit. Sent from my XT907 using IB AutoGroup
Damn. Ok, thanks for letting me know. Yeah I see what you mean about the ends unraveling. I have frays at the edges but figured it may just leave it at that.
I would never have figured the stuff would burn up though. That sucks.
When I took to stock baffle wrap off you could see in lots if places where it had turned black and was burnt up. Didn't take long. That's why I'm trying to get something on there that will last.
I pulled the Helix out of my true duals about a month ago thinking it was time to replace them. They were in perfect shape. The original packing in the freedom pipes didn't last 1 season. I switched to the cloth and checked it after a couple of months. It wasn't in good shape at all plus it didn't do much to the sound. Thinking about it it fell apart more than burnt but the ends were pretty frayed. I did some research and went for the Helix. I even purchased a set of Fuelmoto pillows which are sitting on the shelf. Some day they will get their turn. Lol

Ok so I removed the foil tape (would have burned off anyways) and instead used ultra high temp silicone/gasket maker to seal both ends and down the middle. This should keep the fabric from now fraying. When it warms up and after a few hundred miles I'll pull the baffle again to check on it. If it looks bad I'll pull the fabric off and go with some Helix or 10oz fiberglass clothe.
This is the pipe Im getting also…is this always needed or are you guys just trying to quiet it down?
Both.
I'm not so much doing it to quiet it down as I am trying to get a tad deeper note, but am doing it because the stock wrapping burns and disintegrates over time. Doing this will make it last forever ( hopefully).
Ok.. I'm glad I asked because it just wasn't siting right with me.
I went ahead and pulled the baffle again, and this time wrapped it looser. Now it's not super tight (like it was) and not too loose. Just somewhere in between.
I've been thru several different types of fiberglass packing. What works best for me and sounds best(subjective) is: #3 coarse steel wool pads unwound then wrapped around the baffle.
The fiber from a virgin's panties unwound at midnight on a full moon, then woven directly around your baffle at sunrise, and immediately ran through 100 miles of mountain road.
It won't last long, and it does almost nothing for sound dampening, but you'll feel really good about it.
