wrapped baffle opinion
I ended up removing the stove rope and using 12oz fiberglass cloth. Wrapped 3 layers around it and tied it off with some safety wire.
I'm so sick of messing with it that I'm just gonna call it good enough.
I don't even care if it's loud or silent, just better not worrying about the baffle wrap burning up or deteriorating.

I just finished up a youtube research session on the Moose and FMF loose-style packing and think I'm going to pull my baffle out today and re-pack it more evenly now that I've learned some new techniques.
What I've learned this morning is to take the loose packing and kind of roll into a loose log shape, then coil those around the baffle. Use blue masking tape to hold it all in place, then install the baffle. The heat will cause the tape to release and allow the packing to expand uniformly in the muffler.
I didn't save any of the links but if you search youtube for Moose or FMF loose exhaust packing or competition exhaust packing, you should find the videos of how it's done. The FMF stuff is pink, but appears to be the same material as Moose otherwise and has the same handling properties.
I'll let you know how well it works after I get back from Harbor Freight with a $20 slide hammer.

I had to pull the baffle, repack, and replace several times last night to get it to fit in the conical muffler, and that thing made it a breeze. I was able to double the amount of material.
No report back on how well the extra packing worked since I haven't been able to road test yet. It sounds better at idle, but it needs to be run long enough to blow off the masking tape.

I gotta 2nd the suggestion with the mat. Not saying fill is bad but I'd constantly be worried it was shifting around unevenly and easily burning up.
I was looking at the moose racing pillows which seemed nice. They look like they'd make the exhaust real quiet though.
I went with the fiberglass cloth after doing a lot more digging, and some guy (Joe Minton) came up. Some articles from back when. This guy supposedly knows his **** and said it's what you should use.
Since we share the same name, I figured I should listen and do what he suggests.
