I need you guys to chime and in let me know whether this looks ok or if it will be too restrictive. I stripped the baffle down and re-wrapped it around about 4-5 times with high temp silica fabric from here:
i just wanted to mellow the sound out a tad but at the same time not have to worry in the future about redoing the baffle. Because I really don't know jack **** about how restrictive or not this stuff is.. i don't wanna make the bike run bad or take performance away. Maybe someone who has used this can chime in.. Thanks.
Do you have a before pic of your baffle? What does the inside look like? if the gas is expected to flow through the holes you just covered....its going to work like a big plug and not run at all. If you have a straight through baffle....it will be ok.

I don't have a before pic.. but here are two good pics of the same baffle I just stole from SquidHead's thread (didn't wanna hijack his thread -just the pics )
Cant tell from your pic...but if it is straight through...you will be alright. I would loosen up on the wrap though....you dont want it too tight or it wont do anything to deaden the sound.
As you know, I haven't been able to fire it up yet to compare, but you can adjust the amount of sound dampening by how much packing you use. I bought the 250 gram bag and have PLENTY left over if I want to put more in later.

The right answer. You don't want it wrapped too tight. Just light hand tension to take out slack, but don't pull it hard while wrapping.
Ok.. I'm glad I asked because it just wasn't siting right with me.
I went ahead and pulled the baffle again, and this time wrapped it looser. Now it's not super tight (like it was) and not too loose. Just somewhere in between.
I tried the silica fabric & it sounded harsh & didn't last. Then I replaced it with Helix packing & it sounds great, deeper & smoother, and after 2 years it looks like new. I picked it up at a local kawayamahondo dealer for $20. I don't recall if it was the high or low density. I think I used the high.

The silica fabric didn't last? It's rated to 1800 degrees. Did it burn up or fall apart?
What didn't you like about the sound? Everything I read here on the forum said it was a deeper tone.
