Having at least some basic mechanical knowledge and some descent tools goes a long way for a Harley owner. Figuring out stuff and learning how to work on your own bike is an experience that you won't find at the dealer...

75% of the stuff an HD requires as far as changing parts, maintenance, etc. is stuff that most people could do with some basic knowledge, some small tools & either a service manual or by talking to someone who does. Now you get into tearing into the engine & major stuff like that...sometimes that's best left to someone who knows what they're doing.

It's a Harley, not the space shuttle...it's not rocket science. Buy a service manual, some tools & a case of beer and enjoy becoming one with your bike
I agree with you 110%

No. I'm talking about the primary cover (the big boy). I scratched it tryin
to adjust the shifter peg. I used the wrong side of the allen wrench...the nut is on real tight.

My pipes are Vance and Hines Big Shots Staggered. They sound great! I threw in a pair of Big City Thunder Monster Baffles which made them even louder.

My original pipes are sitting in the garage, too big to ship and no one wanted them locally.

I did install them. You could do it with one person but much easier if you have a buddy to help you out.

Every mod on my bike I did myself (with friends). I was clueless when I first started but am learning pretty fast. I do all my own maintenance (the simple stuff, fluids, adjusting cltuch)

When it comes to the bigger maintenance items I will probably find a good local independent mechanic.

Definitely get a manual and dont be hesitant on reaching out on this forum for help/advice. Use the search function first, chances are you will find your answers without having to start a new thread. You may get some smart asses chiming in, but thats just how it goes. Most on here are very helpful.

Also, checkout the Marketplace on this site for aftermarket parts, I have got quite a few parts from there and sold a lot of stock parts as well.

Good luck in all your future endeavors with your ride bro!

Totally agree. I'm not very technical , so to speak, but with the help of a service manual, and some tools that I already had, I've put on pipes, assisted with bars and cables, seat, battery and well you get the picture. I'm so much more confidant than when i first bought my bike. I say GO FOR IT! Oh yeah the most important thing that I have read...BEER! DON'T FORGET THE BEER!!! And ask the good folks on this forum...SUPER Helpful !!!
