Hey, was just surfing around and seen the pic. I have a 2005 HD Superglide Sport and I'm wanting to put ape hangers on it. What bars do you have on yours? Thats the look I'm going for
Make sure the bar clamp area fits with your riser clamp setup so do your homework. The riser clamp area is 9 1/2", so check that against a bar your seriously considering. I'm going to be putting my 14" Santee bars on my wifes FXDC and that's the first thing I did was check the clamp measurement. Santee bars have a narrow rise to the 'V' making it great for the smaller fork spacing and better for smaller rider (like my wife). I'm staying with 14" but going with Wild1's WO572s. Those are better suited for the bigger fork bikes since the 'V' spreads out more as it goes up. The wider grip is easier for guys but have seen some tough gal's sportin em but not too often.
I just bought the HD mini apes, " I think". I was at the dealer and one of the dyna models had higher bars than my sg fxdc. Just did the instal yesterday, by putting back the stock risers and it was a tight install. Stock cables fit but clutch cable and break line is tight in length. Will have to change those to to avoid damaging them. At least it won't go for the $600 bucks the dealer was selling me for longer cable kit.
Height. Now being 6.2" I have my arms straight on the bike, not higher than my shoulders so blood flow is fine and no numbness for long rides.
I have some HD chrome cash to burn and wanted to use it to pay for a set of ape hangers. When I go through the parts catalog, they do not list the 12" apes as fitting the SG. As a matter of fact, the only handlebars for the SG are the reduced reach bars. WTF, isn't the dyna front end the same for all models? I know I need to replace cables and break lines.
Counsel and advice requested.
the 12" apes aren't listed as being compatible because they aren't a direct fit - meaning you'll need to replace cables - and that's a mod, not a bolt on.
On page 571 of the "2014 Genuine Motor Parts and Accessories" book, there is a table which lists all of the HD brand bars with their specifications. As long as the new bars have the same diameter and knurl center, they'll bolt right up. Again, you may have to change clutch, brake and throttle cables - as well as modify the electrical wiring - all dependent upon how much cable slack you have.
Did this to my 05 low rider a few years ago, you can reroute the clutch cable and throttle lines and on mine there was enough extra electrical to fit. The break line was tight when parked but worked fine while riding. I have since made changes but it will work

Thanks for your comment. Just rerouted my clutch cable today and it's totally working. Now I will just have to change the break line.
Mini apes...
Just had a work order made up at dealership to put on mini apes on my 2012 FXDC on Friday.
part # 56951-09B, all cables replaced with longer ones and new "get-a-grip" handlebar grips....AND LABOR, $896.00!
Now I will get back what I had on my 2002 Wide Glide...Was Very comfortable!
