Also highly debatable.

Progress.........I clayed to check cam /block clearances (kind of new they'd be OK) and put the new plate and cams together. I just have to center the pump and I'm ready to torque to spec and close up the cam chest.

What's so important about the crank runout? It's only an issue if it's out of spec. Did you bother asking if my cam/crankcase clearances were in spec? Did you ask how much I had to clearance the upper rocker boxes? Perfect example of internet hype. My crank runout measured less than .002. If it would have been out of wack , I would have said so. What you might consider important, to me is just run of the mill stuff. Let me know if there are any other tolerances you wish to know aside from "the sky is falling" crank runout on 07 + twin cams

Johnnyjellybean,
Hows it going? Don't stop, but you gotta know run of the mill to you is important to the likes of me and others not having done a build before.
I didn't know about having to measure crank run out till I read about it on another build thread.
I certainly didn't read that you had to measure crank run out from the companies that are selling these big bore kits. Makes me wonder if its overkill or even necessary???

I think it's very important to know and 100% must if you want go gear drive cams like I did.

The crank is the center point of your entire build. Even a stock motor can be grenaded with a bad crank.

Unless you are experiencing abnormal vibrations or notice abnormal wear on the oil pump geroter gears, there's no real reason to even bother measuring crank runout unless you run gear drive cams like you did.
That being said, having the tool to do it, I took the 10 minutes extra and did it
