Yes, stock shifter. I used blue loctite a year ago and it didn't hold. The splines on the shaft are a little worn, but doesn't seem like anything that would make it spin like that.
To replace the shaft I have to take the whole damn primary apart right?
I have a 95 FLHTC. There is no way on God's green earth that MY shift lever will come off without taking the whole primary off. I have to change the seals out anyway so it's not a big deal. But if the tranny and primary were not leaking I would hate to take the primary off. I just ordered the James gasket kit for it today... 50.00 with shipping
PS: It's my belief that the shift lever metal is softer than the shift shaft metal. If ANYthing has gone south it would be the lever itself. While I have mine off I am having wild urges to drill a hole in the new lever, tap it and put in an allen set screw for added security.
