I'v tried a couple of mounts but so far my favorite is the Boom! Audio Music Player Tank Pouch-76000193.
It sticks well to the blank place on the bottom of the street bob dash and I can grab it and out it in my pocket instead of leaving it on the bike. I use it with my PowerVision or my iPhone.
It's only $45.00 and it seems solid at any speed. I only checked it to 80MPH but I am confident in it.

If I did it on a Dyna I would consider the ball/perch mount. It is a ball mount that fastens to the perch. I usually make mine. My gps mount is very small and has a rain cover. I have used several types of GPS's and am very fond of the Garmin units. Presently I am using a Zumo 660 and like the 665. There are several things I really like about it. It's fast, no need to transfer maps to the gps. Doing it with the GPS is easier/faster. Unless of course you want a custom route then you can transfer it to the unit.

I use this same case with my Garmin. I got the big one that has lifetime map updates (it was a gift that I love). The case came off of ebay for about $20. It helps protect it from water if it happens to rain. It just clamps onto your bars and has different "adapters" so you can put it whatever. I just plug mine in after I get to where I'm going to recharge it. Working on a power point of some kind, but don't want something else mounted to the bars.

There is a link to one like the one I use. I read from someone else that they stick their GPS in a zip lock baggie to protect it from rain.

Stopped at best buy today just to take a look a gps units, Im not overly comfortable with how the gps would stay on the mount. That is for car gps units. Do the motorcycle ones have a stronger mount that attaches to the gps itself?

Zumo 550 comes with this motorcycle mounting device:

I bolted it to the Kury bracket using 4 ss screws and nuts.

You can use it with the RAM mount as well:

Im starting to really like the harley zumo 660 and the non harley garmin sumo 660. Now comes the question do I have to leave that mounting and wires on the bars all the time? IMO it doesn't look good and I won't have the gps on all the time

I've been running an iphone in a ram x-grip on a ball mount. I recently sold the iphone and am looking to replace the GPS with a Garmin Montana. Waterproof, battery powered but can be plugged in and I'll just use a ball mount to the center of the bars. Figure I can put street and topo maps on the same device so I can use it when I go hiking on the long rides.
