Not only does it change the look, it also changes the feel (and height) of the bars. If you decided you like it, take em off, scuff up the chrome, shoot em with some appliance epoxy and boom, new look and feel for $10-$20 bucks.

I had the same predicament with my '09 FXDC. went with some 12" Wild 1 Chubbys Outlawz mini apes. I haven't gotten to ride with them yet due to polar vortex, but I love the look of them, and they feel great sitting on the bike.
