I agree with dealer 2 about the tappets. I always replace tappets with cams unless it's a quality tappet with very low mileage. Your stock made in Mexico "c" lifters are garbage anyway.
Eff really? I have been reading cam threads for days and I couldn't recall this coming up novice which is why I was immediately distrustful. I trust you though dude.
In any event I'll post what the dealers come back with for the stage 2 kit part number I had mentioned. Seems like from the responses here, I am not getting jerked around as much as I previously suspected. This is why I love the forum.
Update, Dealer 1 came back with a quote to supply and install p/n 290893-07B. $975 parts, 10 hours labour @ $99. So the kit saves me $300 in parts. Interesting he came back with 2 more hours of labour than the initial quote on page 1? He says the extra labour is because of no adjustables and I can't substitute 204's for the 255's with the kit. Suppose I could buy the 204's and sell the 255's that come with the stage 2 kit.
Update 2 - dealer 2 comes back with quote to supply install 290893-07B. $975 kit, still has $300 for tappets, $150 for perfect pushrods, and $1300 labour. All in $2900 before taxes.
Also, I managed to find a very lightly used set of 204's for $200 I am buying. That way I can substitute for the 255's.
