The Switchback sold me because it didn't have to be a tour-er if I didn't want it to be. When my wife wants to ride, then I'll throw the back rest and bags back on so she can bring whatever she wants with her.

The Switchback, I would agree is the most ready to tour with as is. All you really need is a way to carry more stuff than usual and a smile.

My recommendations include: a good seat (Mustang for me), a windshield, foot boards rather than pegs (you won't understand until you have done both for 12 hours a day), saddlebags, something to lean on and a coffee cup.

Here is a picture of my Street Bob after riding from Destin Florida to Grand Forks North Dakota in a day and a half. About half of that in the rain. I felt so good that I then took my Electra-Glide out for a ride.

Here's my Dyna during my recent (6,211 km) 4-weeks trip in S-E USA loaded up with army duffle bags large (1) & small (3), small army backpack (1) on top

All i know is my 04 FXD has just hit 50k so I guess you can say that the FXD is decent for long rides with some little adjustments made to be a little more comfy.

I travel all over the UK on my Low Rider S. I actually like the firm ride, but i guess most people would want to switch the shocks to tour on it. All these bikes are pretty easy to convert for touring with a few bolt-ons.
