Hi,

Dow you have to cut a bigger hole in headlight bucket for wires of HID light to through?

Thanks

My lamps do not have a diffuser on them, i do leave the shroud... on customers i let it be up to them, some ask me to remove it some do not... honestly i dont notice much difference anyway, i was only asking the poster because he said his light was patchy that would be the only reason i could see for that...

these are the style kits i purchase
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-XENON-LI...e90a04&vxp=mtr

if i am worried about flicker i go with a setup like this... only issue is those boxes make it much harder to hide

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xentec-Hid-X...item3ef57dc28a

as far as the headlight goes, yes on some you have to cut a larger hole... here is a shot of a repair i did cause the previous installer did a botch job and jacked up the back of the lamp... on mine i like to cut them and solder them back up so it is cleaner

i had to make the hole larger and then used a grommit to be safe for the wires

this way all you ahve in the small 5 3/4 bucket is this

i did not have much room to play with so i tucked the ballast on his fairing (he also went with a different kit than i use so this ballast was huge)

this is what the wiring the prev mechanic did

this is how it looked when i was done

i rebuilt his whole front harness

what i am saying is if you are going to do it, do it right

I have done mine the same way i just made a slightly larger hole in my bucket and soldered all the wires. I used a new grommet on the hole and adhesive lined shrink wrap on all connections.

Got my DDM kit installed, installed it WITHOUT the relay harness. No flickering or issues as of yet. I have the Low Beam only kit, but I swapped pins on the HID harness so it's actually now a High Beam only kit. I leave the light normally "OFF", saves juice on startup and makes cranking the bike easier. I also know its "ON" during the day when the Blue idiot light is on.

Install was a breeze, simple plug and play. I just had to drill a hole in the headlight bucket for the wires and then I reused there supplied grommet for a watertight connection. My Ballast is bolted to my top tree, I wasn't concerned about hiding it because you can't see anything behind the fairing anyways.

Kinda blue in this first pic, this was as soon as it was turned on so the bulb hasn't warmed up yet:

I don't have the black diffuser in the housing and I left the little metal reflector/shroud installed on the headlight bulb. You cant really tell from the pics but you can noticeably see in person that all the light is emitted from the top half of the headlight. I thought I had the light mounted off centered because the light pattern was angled, but after looking closer the bulb shroud is actually a little longer on the left side of the bike. I'm assuming its designed this way to allow you to adjust the light up a bit, while keeping the light out of oncoming drivers eyes. I adjusted it in the garage but will take a few 9/16" wrenches with me next time I'm riding at night to fine tune it. So far so good!

just my .02 cents but I run digital brand HID in all of my vehicles with a 10 second time delay relay harness. my headlight is on 10 second delay to account for any voltage drop on starts. I had a 55w and found the bulbs to run so hot it distorted the glass and fogged the internal of my light. switched to 35 watt ballast and has been fin since. not cuts in anything just the install of a bi xenon bulb a wire to the battey and I was in good shape, as far as the original post I would run the relay harness if it were me honestly
