So I am starting to research 2 into 1 exhaust systems as I am tired of my short shots.
I noticed that directcycleparts will not ship thunderheader to California and every exhaust manufacturer's website has a little note at the bottom talking about CA's CARB and emissions.
I am military so only expect to be in CA for about one more year and am trying to keep my bike registered in NC. I have had success in re-registering my truck in NC without the safety inspection so am hopeful for the bike as well.
So my question is, with all the awesome CA bikes running aftermarket exhaust including thunderheader, how do the CA riders get around this apparent prohibition on aftermarket exhaust?
I would post this to the Pacific location forum but responses there take a lot longer.
Ah, the good 'ol Republic of Californica. Great place to be from. I know they recently changed the laws about exhaust noise and such. Have you tried looking into another seller that will ship to Ca.? Maybe someone you know will ship it to you when the order is shipped to them?
Direct cycle parts has a release of liability form you can download, and fill out. On the bottom web page, click on the California link, and scroll to the bottom of the page. I havent tried it personally, but I saw it on there when I was checking prices. Hope that helps!
Even so, plenty of newer bikes running around CA with 'modded' exhausts. It's only if and when CA institutes annual mc inspections will the effect of that law really be felt by the average biker, unless you like to ride at WOT up and down Main St and attract the attention of the LEO, in which case you could be written up for a violation.

Thanks for the responses. I will check out directcycleparts' website better for that release form. I love the land and ocean here in California, but all of the various laws are rather confusing. Still trying to figure out what to do with my 15 round clips for my XD...
Gives me a start up business idea. I will order illegal Kaliforniastan exhaust systems and have them shipped to Nevada. Once a week, I will travel across the state "iron curtain" and smuggle the contraband systems into Ca.
Sneaky eh? I wonder if armed CARB officers will stop and search me at the border?

Put the mags away for safe keeping! The gun laws in this state are rediculous!
You are fine. There are no issues unless you ride around like a jackass and get pulled over for a noise violation. So much drama imagined by those that don't live here. The only real problem are with shops installing no conforming on customers bikes. The shop has a license and can/will be inspected by an EPA rep for oil disposal containers, etc, blah blah blah and if a rep sees the shop installing non conforming units they will get in trouble.

I am from CA and also stationed here. I am running short shots as well and ordered them directly from JPCycle.com, no issues at all. Fuelmoto.com handled the EFI module. That is another issue. Lots of carriers won't ship those either. But just about every single one has the release form you can fill out. With all of the bikes I have had over my years of living here, I have never had any issues with exhaust. But for those who are not mechanically inclined, they may have issues finding a place to install them. Same with dyno-tuning. As far as your firearms go, none of mine are CA legal and I intend to keep it that way. Where are you stationed?
