Anyone know if the first service should be at 500 miles or 1000 miles? I have read both and not sure which is right. I just hit 500 and it seems pretty early to me.
1,000 but some do it at 500. The main idea is to trap any particles left over from building the engine. There are dust size and smaller particles of silicon from casting and bits of metal from machining etc. I have always done an early 1st oil change on anything I buy. Nice to see HD recommends it right in the manual.

Anyone's dealer try to sell them on a servicing earlier than 1000 miles?
That's partly why I asked.....the dealer I purchased from (not my usual dealer) told me to get it done at 500 miles. I am reading that most do it at 1000.

I just purchased my 2016 about two weeks ago. They told me 1000 miles.
I really appreciated the OTD quotes from you guys when I was looking around for my LR. It gave me a guideline to go by,
Like IkeLove, I was given a few quotes that were high for what I was looking to pay. Then I finally got a solid offer from a dealership. I used that offer to leverage against other dealerships. In the end I paid 14,600 OTD for my 2016. My bike was in a crate and never saw the sales floor.
After I had agreed to the deal, I got a call from a rival dealer offering a 2016 Street Bob for 13,800 OTD which I declined due to have already given my verbal commitment to the LR.
Good deals can be had, but man do the HD dealers make you work for them.

You did good on your LR. My bike too was never on the sales floor. It was one the dealer had ordered. I took it. My dealer still does not have a LR on the sales floor.
