I'm running stock length Heritage/Fatboy forks in Softail Custom trees on my '02 (with FXDF shocks). With the exception of mildly tweaking the trees & fabbing fender, caliper & wheel spacers, it was a pure bolt on. Fork lock in the neck even works. If you use the FXDWG/FXSTC forks in FXDWG trees, it will be a straight bolt on. Hardest part is cleaning up all the excess wiring hidden under the headlight brow. It's been done here a bunch of times & searching "FL Dyna" will turn up a dozen plus variations on the them.
Don't know the rake & trail numbers, but mine rides like a Cadillac, rolls over into a corner easy as pies & holds a line like it's on rails. Stable & smooth on short bursts past 100mph & low speed/parking lot manners are as good as stock.
I'm going to have to borrow your look there sir... I dig it!! big look without big bike!! and it looks like you can add the extras (bags, fairnig) if you choose..
Hey Carl... The stem length? Are the heritage/road kings the same as the dynas? Or the other bikes?
If so thinking about looking for a complete front end..
Road Kings are FLTs & a totally different animal- the triple trees will not work on a Dyna. Stem length is the same between the Wide Glide & Heritage forks. The Heritage trees will need more work to fit the Dyna. There are a few write ups on that on the forum & in the FL-Dyna group. If yer wanting a complete front end, FXDWG or FXST is the way to go, IMO. The FXDWG will bolt on & the FXST will just need the minor massaging on the lower tree's "wings".
My handlebar wiring, along with the speedo, tach & idiot light wiring just fits through the hole in the upper triple tree & you'll have to un-pin the connector to do that. Since you'll need to trim a few inches off the harness to clean up that area, it's the perfect time to knock that out.
