Spark plugs should be fine for 2 years easy with periodic maintenance. If your poles are tight at all four ends and the headlight is bright it can't very well be the battery. Does it splutter only if your sitting on it or any time it chooses, because you know I'm leaning towards crushed or melted wires under the seat going back to the electrical caddy. Ask me how I know this!
Took that lead off but couldn't see anything obvious, pressed the silver nipple and got a spray of petrol in the face, so it works alright lol.
Thought I noticed an improvement riding home but still wasn't right, idles ok but rough as a badger thru traffic in first, jerky with no real throttle control.
Checked leads under seat as far as I could but none seem damaged.
Thanks for detailed response. Have been on with local dealer to price parts for a filter change and some seal I need for tank is actually more expensive than the filter itself...they don't seem aware of the 12 screws that need replaced too...
On my winding operation, I have not changed the screws. No problem since!
I just went through a miss at high speed.
Came home and did a once over,
New plugs, spark plug wires,removed the air cleaner and used throttle body cleaner and gave it a good cleaning, removed the crank sensor and cleaned it,
Also replaced the battery,replaced the system relay.
Problem solved, runs fantastic.
What cured it? Who knows.
